Frequently Asked Questions: Electronics

Why was my battery replaced?

We replace any battery if it reads low on voltage. This means that a 9 volt battery that is less than 9 volts or a 1.5 volt battery that is less than 1.5 volts will be replaced. We will also replace batteries in any unit that requires the case to be split and calibration seal torn during in the field battery replacement. If you install a new battery in your equipment before sending the unit in for certification, you will avoid the additional battery charge.

Can you certify aircraft instruments?

We do not certify any instrument for use in aircraft. All instruments are NIST traceable and can be used in ground test equipment, not for flight or aircraft navigation. We have chosen not to become an FAA Repair Station and do not issue yellow return to service tags.

If one section or range will not certify, can you do a limited certification?

Yes, we will do a limited certification and mark any range as not useable; this would only be done if you gave us permission first.

Should I send my leads along with the meter?

We do not need any leads to certify a multimeter unless you want us to check or replace them. You should send the leads for any other test equipment because they are sometimes part of the calibration procedure

Part of the display on my Fluke meter does not work. Can you repair the display?

The display usually has part of the numbers not showing because of oxidation on the display contacts. Often this can be repaired by cleaning the instrument at no charge during our normal certification procedure.
